Pheidole pallidula


Pheidole pallidula is a small but quite an aggressive species.  They have a high requirement for food and so should be fed regularly. åÊPheidole pallidulaåÊis one of the few species of European ants who have soldier ants. åÊThey are distributed over Southern Europe and Northern Africa.åÊThe nest should have both a dry and a moist area. åÊThis species of ant can be kept at room temperature, however an additional heat spot is recommended.åÊåÊA well established Queen and colony can number up to 50,000 worker ants.

This ant is suitable for beginners if attention is payed to good breakout protection.

Description of Queen:åÊ7-8mm. Light Brown to Black.

Description of Workers: 2-4mm Minor worker, 5-6mm Major worker (Soldier) From Light Brown to Black to even Light to dark Yellow.

Feeding:åÊInsects, sugar water, honey water, grains of seeds

Hibernation Required:åÊYes, November toåÊFebruary, around 15å¡C


Humidity:åÊNest Area 60-70%,åÊArena Area 40-60%

Nest Suitability:åÊYtong / Acrylic / Glass / Soil / Plaster

Minimum Tube / Connector Diameter:åÊ9mm Ytong, 13mm Acrylic

Life span of Queen:åÊ10-15 years


These ants are not native to the UK and is therefore illegal to release them into the wild. Please contact AntKit if you no longer wish to keep them and we will arrange for them to be collected from you at no cost.
