Camponotus vestitus is another example of a beautiful species from the Camponotus genus. Originating from South Africa, this species is widespread but forms relatively small colonies. Also known as the Shimmering Sugar Ant. The Queen is a lovely red-brown colour and has a golden shine. They can tolerate low humidity so are suited to living in dry conditions, nesting in Ytong or Plaster nests. These ants will benefit from a low power heating source to keep the temperature around 26è_C, this will speed up brood development.
