Camponotus maculatus is an attractive species found in Africa. The Queens are large With distinctive markings, whilst the workers are more yellow with markings on their gasters.
They are polymorphic meaning there are different castes.
They are a fairy easy species and love their sugars and proteins.
A very rewarding species to keep.
Description of Queen: 16-18mm long, Head and Gaster black, Thorax yellow , Gaster with yellow dots or stripes.
Description of Workers: 6-16 Long, Head dark brown/ black. Their Gaster is black with yellow dots or stripes.
They also are Polymorphic (Minor, Media and Major workers)
Food requirements: Protein (dead insects) and sugars.
Humidity: 50- 60%
Temperature: 21 – 26 degrees C
Hibernation Required: not required however a winter break is recommended between November and March at room temperature.

Life span of Queen: Can be upto 20 years or more!

These ants are not native to the UK and is therefore illegal to release them into the wild. Please contact AntKit if you no longer wish to keep them and we will arrange for them to be collected from you at no cost.
