Camponotus ligniperda are one of the largest European species.
This species can be slow to get started from a single queen and can take a couple of months from egg to worker but once established they are more active and reach large numbers.
Very similar species to Camponotus herculeanus, ligniperda is distinguished by its larger size, brighter color and shinier gaster.
Description of Queen: 14-16mm, Black head, Under thorax Reddish colour.
Description of Workers: 6-14mm
They also are Polymorphic (Minor, Media and Major workers)
Food requirements: Protein (dead insects) and sugars.
